Jimmy White Snooker Exhibition

The Newtown County side who organised and ran the hugely successful Jimmy White Snooker Exhibition at The Elephant & Castle on Friday 2nd November, 2007.

A full house of 250 people attended and enjoyed four half centuries and a 130 table clearance from "The Whilwind".

The Dolau Inn's Mark Borland was the only player to beat Jimmy White on the night, getting his victory on the final pink 65-42. Mark took advantage of some uncharacteristic misses from Jimmy, but still put together a couple of 20+ breaks and showed his snooker and pool credentials by impressing the capacity crowd with his ice-cold calm and his excellent white ball control - fully justifying his nickname of "Cue-ball" - although that could be something to do with his head!
The Main Organiser of the Event was Phil Jones, the League Chairman and Captain of the County Side - he rewarded his family by bringing them along to the event and then roping in his daughter, Mel to take part in one of Wayne Smith's more "cheeky" trick shots, which involved Wayne potted the four yellow balls on the table through Mel's legs and into the red bag she was holding in front of her. The successful execution of the shot was met with thunderous applause, not only for Wayne's skill and showmanship, but also for Mel's sporting acceptance of an indelicate stance

Wayne receiving generous applause from the audience following his trick shot with Mel. Despite being the support to Jimmy White on the night, Wayne's excellent showmanship, skill and use of local characters in his show, provided for two hugely entertaining sessions on the night. Well done to Wayne who provided his services free of charge to help the County lads to raise money to support their travelling for a few years to come.

Arthur Howard pictured with Jimmy, and no wonder Jimmy has got such a smirk on his face because Arthur bid £230 for the framed piece of cloth and a photo when the item was for sale all night at £199!! That money all went into Jimmy's pocket - or rather into the pockets of the rather irritating entourage he had with him.
