| Newtown Pool League recently
held its end of season Finals Day, where once again, a large crowd
witnessed Llanbadarn crowned as top team of the season. The current
League and Cup champions retained their double titles, pipping The
Elite to the Premier League Championship and also beating them in
the League Cup Final to claim the double again. |

| The Gordon Price Handicap
Cup always tests the Premier sides, and this year The Lion had
their work cut out as they faced a 4-0 handicap against the Third
Division Champions, Red Dragon. The underdogs had already disposed
of the Waggon, Deserters and Elite in their earlier rounds, all of
them top Premier sides! Unfortunately for them, The Lion were fully
informed of their earlier exploits and they played it very tight to
claw back the handicap and win the match by taking the first 7
frames. |

Division 2&3 Cup

| The most entertaining final
of the day featured the Squashed Grapes and Dolau Inn in the final
of the Division 2 & 3 Cup. There were obviously keen
competitive edges to both sides as every shot was greeting by cheers
from their supporters. The match went all the way to the 10th
frame where the vastly experienced Dave Lewis potted the black to
win the match, only for the cue ball to fall it down into the
pocket. That set up an 11th frame decider which was won
by the prolific Mark Borland to allow his Dolau team to lift the
Cup. |

Mixed Doubles Runners up |
| The Mixed Doubles has
been won by Drew and Anna Hughes for the past two years, but this
year they lost out to Steve and Jackie Davies in the semi-final,
allowing the Upper House pair to meet Alan Jones and Laura Williams
in the final. The Davies’ faced tough opposition in their
Jones/Williams opponents, both of whom play Premiership pool and
their experience told as latter ran out 3-0 winners. |

| Llanbadarn took another Cup

The Lion after they beat their Grapes opponents, Phil Jones, Daf
Rowlands and Kevin Humphreys in the Final, 5-1. Kris Robinson, Lee
Lello and Richard Patterson were the winning trio. |

Young
Drew Hughes has been the biggest name in Youth Pool in
Newtown (even Wales at times) for some years now, and he celebrated
with another title this season, beating Monty Pythons youngster,
Anthony Rogers in the final after enduring a big scare in the
semi-final where he went down 2-0 to his opponent, Nick Gant, before
coming back to win 3-2. Anthony had previously beaten Mark Hughes to
reach the final of the Under 17s competition.
For the
first year, a younger age group competition was run, allowing the Under
14s to make their mark in the game. 13yrs old Amy Harris took on
10yrs old Connor Davies, with Connor running out the victor, 3-1. |

| Mens Singles Champion |
Mens Singles Runner up |
| Excellent Quarter Final and
Semi Final victories saw two Elite team-mates do battle in the Final
of the prestigious Singles competition, and for the victor,
it lay to rest a bogey he had faced three times previously. Mike
Williams was crowned Mens Singles Champion after beating team-mate,
Glyn Davies 4-3. It was Mike’s fourth Singles Final appearance,
each of them against fellow team mates, and he finally overcame it,
although he had a big stumble in the final, throwing away a 3-1 lead
to allow Glyn back into the match at 3-3. |
